Last week Joel drove to the capital city of Ankara to train the women for Get Bridged's next project.
From the Get Bridged Website:
"Get Bridged is coming along side Kardelen, a non-profit organization that works with disabled children and their families in Turkey. Adhering to fair-trade principles, we will be giving work to 8 women to produce our next line of products as a means of income generation.
These women are mothers of the disabled children that Kardelen works
with, and are often unable to provide for their families’ basic needs."
These women come from poorer backgrounds. Some of them might get a little help from the government, but none of them can afford quality, professional therapy for their children whom are often viewed as cursed in this society. Get Bridged will be providing work for these moms, and while they are working, their kids will receive life giving therapy from the staff of Kardelen. How awesome is that?
I am so excited about this project and how it will not only provide an income for these women, but also help their children at the same time!
When Joel arrived home from Ankara he excitedly told me all about his week, and if you know my husband at all, you know he is such a passionate person. He just has this way of making you feel excited and passionate about whatever he's talking about and that's one of the many things I love about him!
And I was so proud of him for doing all that teaching IN TURKISH!!
