Visiting refugee camps

I'm trying to get all caught up here, so we are taking it waaaay back to the end of December!

The last week of December I traveled to a small town near the Syrian border with some friends for 3 days to visit some refugee camps and distribute supplies. 

It was so crazy to see how different things were from when I was there last year (you can read more about that here and here). 

The bombing in Suruc last July that killed over 30 people was right outside the cultural center that I had been in on our last visit. Just crazy to think about!

A lot of the refugee camps in Suruc have emptied out (except for the huge government camp) and many are heading back to Syria. One afternoon we drove right to the border and could see Kobani and the long line of trucks crammed with people waiting in line to go home. It has now been over a year since Kobani has been liberated from ISIS control, and many families are returning home to try to rebuild their lives. But there is still SO much work to be done, it was heartbreaking to see Kobani completely and utterly destroyed! 

Turkey now has over 2 million Syrian refugees and is the route through which many of them travel to reach Europe. But things are not looking any better for these refugees trying to make the journey. Many of them have hopes of reaching Europe, but after making the dangerous journey across the Aegean in inflatable dinghies and finally landing on Greece's shores, they will now be sent back to Turkey, in light of the recent deal between the EU and Turkey. 

Please continue to PRAY, please continue to GIVE, don't become apathetic. This is an on-going crisis that isn't going away any time soon and we need to care. This is God's heart and we need to get passionately involved in loving and caring for these refugees!
